GWS Tool Group has announced its evolution into a distinct division within the Sandvik Machining Solutions (SMS) family, effective January 1, 2024. This milestone is marked by the appointment of Sean Holt as the new president of GWS, heralding a fresh chapter in the company’s storied history. Under the new structure, GWS will operate autonomously, maintaining its unique brand identity and expertise in custom and standard cutting tools, while leveraging the collective strengths and resources of the SMS network.

The North American market for custom cutting tools is said to be poised for robust growth, driven by rising demands in critical sectors such as aerospace, automotive and medical industries. GWS says custom tools are increasingly sought after for their role in enhancing productivity, particularly in response to the rising complexity of workpieces.

Sean Holt, stepping into his new role from his previous position as general manager for sales area Americas at Sandvik Coromant, brings a wealth of experience and a track record of leadership. According to the company, he is ideally suited to steer GWS through this next phase of expansion and innovation. GWS Tool Group remains dedicated to delivering cutting-edge solutions and unparalleled service to its customers.
